The Flying A Studios discretely located on the north east corner of Chapala and Mission Streets has an amazing unique historic qualification in our Community. Built in 1913 by the American Film Corporation [based in Chicago], the silent movie studios actually took up a whole city block with very ambitious buildings and open site spaces for the filming of hundreds of silent movies up until 1920 when the movie business took a turn down to Hollywood.
The last remaining building quite visibly has been meticulously maintained, and additionally enhanced with thriving succulent gardens. The interesting Flying A logo is perched prominently at the front of the building over the sign of the current architectural firm occupants.
The stewardship that has maintained and preserved this slice of architectural history is apparent in all aspects of the building, including the three prominent arched windows, stucco details, arched entry gate, and period vintage entry light sconce.
